Jennifer Black - Welcome, today we will talk about pain in your foot from a neuroma. Dr. Steve what is a neuroma?

Dr. Steve - Jennifer a neuroma is a nerve with a bump on it, it is thicker then normal. The most common type of neuroma in the foot usually occurs between the 3rd and 4th metatarsal bones

People with a neuroma usually experience pain that shoots into the toe area. It is usually worse with shoes on, better in bare feet. Worse in shoes that don't have a large toe box, like high heels.

The pain occurs because the nerve gets pinched between the bones when you walk.

The good news is there are lots of ways to get relief without having to have surgery. Spreading out the toes while in a shoe can help; putting a pad under the forefoot to separate the bones can help, Getting a shoe with a wider toe box.

If you have this problem and your home remedies haven't helped see a physical therapist, it takes a good understanding of the foot anatomy to get the relief where you need it.

Jennifer Black - Thank you Dr. Steve. If you want more information Contact Dr. Steve at 1-800-332-5740 or www.AlleghanyChesapeake.com
