Voice- The Bodyshop with Meredith McDonough and Dr. Steve is brought to you by Allegheny Chesapeake Physical Therapy.

Meredith McDonough - Good evening, welcome to The Body Shop. Tonight we are going to look at how your bike could cause some aches and pains if it doesn't fit correctly. Dr. Steve wouldn't we know if our bike didn't fit.

Dr. Steve - You would think so, but it is so common to see people biking with a bike that just isn't adjusted correctly, it is clear that you don't always know

Biking is great exercise and recreation, so you don't want to ruin a good thing, if your bike is adjusted correctly it is so much more fun

The first and most critical part for eliminating pain and injury is to wear a helmet, even if you are only riding on the paved trail, or just in front of your house. I see parents who have their kids in helmets but not themselves, this is a bad example. Everyone should wear a helmet.

Let's look at the bike for some tips: This is Ryan Leech, this years US National Cyclecross Champion to help us demonstrate good and bad fit.

  1. Seat to low = knee pain
  2. Seat to high = saddle soreness and back pain
  3. Frame to tall = groin injuries
  4. Handle bars to low = back pain, and neck pain

Meredith McDonough - This is great stuff, but what if you don't know how to adjust it.

Dr. Steve - Visit your local bike store they can help you make the adjustments or the bike manual.
