Voice- Good evening, welcome to The Body Shop

Meredith McDonough - Good evening and welcome to the Body Shop with Dr. Steve, I'm Meredith McDonough and we're talking about how to make your shoe shopping better. Can it get any better?

Dr. Steve - Well the results can get better. If we are going to buy shoes we want to get the shoes that are going to fit our feet the best. Not all feet are the same nor are the shoes. Knowing you foot type is important. When you walk on the beach or on the deck when you get out of the pool your foot leaves a print which can tell you a lot about your foot. I am going to show two opposite foot print types as examples. This one show very little contact on the ground which correlates with a high arched foot. As a rule the shoe that matches is good cushioning, wide toe box, curve lasts. To make it fit well you may use heel drapes, or a tongue addition to keep your foot secure at the heel.

This foot print has a lot of contact with the ground, usually correlates with a low arch foot; the shoe that matches best has good control with a stiff heel counter, good arch support, straight lasts, and leather uppers.

If you have toe deformities like hammer toes, bunions, you want a shoe with leather upper, and a high toe box.

Meredith McDonough - What if you don't have either of these extreme type foot prints?

Dr. Steve - these footprints demonstrate of foot that can accommodate many more shoe types. If you are having foot complaints with shoes, visit your physical therapist and let them help you.

Meredith McDonough - Thanks Dr. Steve. Anything else we should know?

Dr. Steve - Remember buy your shoes in late afternoon or evening, because you will have a better fit, our feet swell during the day.
